Our 5 favorite things to do in Duchesne, Utah
Just a short one-hour drive from Heber City, Utah, Duchesne is a beautiful location for a vacation. With so many things to do and see we had a hard time narrowing down this list to our top 5 favorite things to do while visiting Duchesne County. We love when our guests at Winterton Suites are here to explore the beautiful outdoors and as always, we are happy to give suggestions on some of our other favorite spots. Without further ado here is our top 5 list of things to do in Duchesne County.
Explore the Uinta Mountains
With some of the most breathtaking landscape in Utah, the Uinta Mountain Range offers something for every type of traveler. Whether you’re an avid hiker looking for challenging trails and mountain tops or looking to have a scenic family picnic the Uintas offers it all. Popular activities in the Uintas include; fishing, backpacking, hiking, horseback riding, and camping. The Uinta Mountain Range is home to the tallest peak in Utah, Kings Peak, which resides in Duchesne County and has an incredible elevation of 13,527 feet.
Cool off at Starvation State Park
Sandy beaches, beautiful water, off-road trails for ATVs and other off-road vehicles, and some great fishing for walleye, trout, and perch. You might be wondering with a name like Starvation how can a place offer so many wonderful things? You will find adventure, fun, and relaxation on your visit to Starvation State Park.
Fishing Duchesne River
Duchesne River offers some amazing fishing spots that are a close drive from Winterton Suites. The Duchesne River, a tributary of the Green River, is a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. The Duchesne River is a great place to catch Mountain Whitefish, cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout. There is a small stretch of public access to the river and we suggest you looking up those access areas before your trip. While we will tell you, this is a wonderful spot to escape and catch some great fish don’t expect us to give up our secret spots!
Dinosaur National Monument
Not in Duchesne, Dinosaur National Monument is still on our top list of things to do. About 70 miles from our beautiful town, Dinosaur National Monument is home to famous fossil finds, beautiful river canyons, petroglyphs, and many amazing opportunities for adventure. Plan a day trip to go and visit a world-famous place that can introduce you to some of the most wonderful pieces of history earth has to offer.
Duchesne County Centennial Event Center
If you’re visiting Duchesne, there’s a chance you could be here to take part in some of the wonderful events held at the Duchesne County Centennial Event Center. A modern, multi-use building offering a regulation-sized indoor/ outdoor arena and a complete conference center that is home to the Duchesne County Fair & Rodeo and to many other events.
